Shahid Rajeev Pandey Government College Bhatagaon, Raipur Previously known as Government Naveen College,Bhatagaon was established on 19th June in the year 2018.

The college was named as Shahid Rajeev Pandey Government College Bhatagaon,Raipur on 6th October, 2018 in the memory of Shahid Rajeev Pandey, an eminent freedom fighter of Chhattisgarh in general and Raipur in particular. Rajeev Pandeyji was born on 11th April 1962 and was martyred on 29th May 1987 at an early age of 25. He was the Second Lieutenant in the Unit-8 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and was awarded with VEER CHAKRA Posthumously.

Shahid Rajeev Pandey Government College Bhatagaon, Raipur which is situated in the middle of Raipur city, is a government college which provides the opportunities for higher education after completing school education to the children studying in schools of many wards along with the nearby villages. The College is affiliated with Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (CG)and under 2 F by the UGC.

Report on Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No 05/2025 by Honourable Supreme Court pertaining to Rabies caused by animal-bite.): 13.12.25

In Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No. 05/2025, "In Re: City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay Price," the Supreme Court of India acknowledges the concerning increase in dog-bite incidences and the ongoing threat of rabies, which puts children and vulnerable residents at particular risk. The Court has issued a number of reasonable and practical directives, acknowledging that the matter is one of the serious public safety while nevertheless taking animal welfare issues into consideration.

 

In this context, an awareness program on the Rabies caused by the dog-bite was organized by the NSS volunteers and the staff members of Shahid Rajeev Pandey Government College Bhatagaon, Raipur, under the guidance of the nodal officer, Higher Education Department, Raipur, Chhattisgarh on 13th December 2025. The program was executed in the Government Primary School, Bhatagaon in the presence of the primary students and the staff.

 


The event commenced with the address of Dr. Nidhi Bhatt, Nodal officer, Shahid Rajeev Pandey Government College, Bhatagaon, Raipur. In her address, she alerts and briefed the students about the purpose of this awareness program and directed them how to treat with the street dogs / animals while coming in contact with them and walking on the streets.

Thereafter, the awareness videos provided by the Nodal, Higher Education Department were shown to the students which they watched with great curiosity maintaining the pin drop silence in the class.

The students were instructed not to hurt the street animals and feed them from the distance by Dr. L.N. Verma, Prof., HOF Commerce. Afterwards, Mrs. Aditi Rani Bhagat, Member NSS Unit, explained the process of handling the situation when bitten and reminded the students to wash their wound for fifteen minutes with running water, if bitten by a dog and the precautions to be taken.

The NSS volunteers namely, Rajeshwar Dhiwar and Khushboo Yadav asked the students to ignore the ritualistic healing and exorcism and appealed  them to get their parents informed if bitten by any stray animal.

The program ended with the fruitful words by Dr. Renu Maheshwari, Principal, of the college. She enlightened the students by clarifying the fact that they should not only be aware with the stray dogs but with the pet dogs as well. Furthermore, she explained the vaccine that given to the dogs works very well but sometimes it may fail due to some reasons.
